Cappella
Cappella is a property development company specialising in residential subdivisions, commercial retail centres, and childcare centres. They are experienced in identifying and developing areas which benefit the residents and local communities, as well as taking care to deliver above and beyond the minimum legal requirements placed on them, resulting in a superior end product.
Cappella had the experience but weren't publicly communicating that.
Cappella needed an online presence to showcase their experience.
Information architecture –
Cappella website content plan
The website pages were planned, including a landing page as a calm entry point where the user can then choose where they want to go depending on what content they're after. The client work was divided into sub-menus of current and past projects, as requested by the brief, to reinforce the message of Cappella's experience.
Cappella website page content plan
The content of each page could then be defined and page structures established. The sub-menu page structure would be duplicated so included a title so users had reference to which sub-menu they were in. Each development within a sub-menu would also be accompanied by a photograph, to act as a visual reference to help those less familiar with the developments by name, and this would be an aerial overview to give the clearest recognition. Current and past project pages would have individual page layouts as current projects were to include the addition of a video. And pull out details would communicate the scale of the development at a glance, whilst again reiterating the level of competence.
Design –
Cappella website wireframes
The design process starts as wireframe sketches of each website page, this is transformed into high fidelity design concepts to be presented to the client. Two concepts were presented, with one chosen and amends requested. The amends were made and then presented back to the client to gain sign off and get the go ahead to start building the website.
Cappella website branded video art direction
With videos being created for the website, and the nature of videos being shared around the internet, it was important to develop the branding across these videos so wherever they ended up they were recognisable as Cappella. A YouTube channel for Cappella was also set up to house their collection of videos together.
The videographer/photographer was briefed about the job, including key content and angles to capture, to satisfy both video and photography. He covered the many locations across New Zealand, scheduling in the sunshine to achieve the best visuals.
Cappella website photoshoot
In the early competitor research phase, inconsistency stood out in the amount of photography per development, even within the same company. This created a feeling of bias over which developments were more important. For Cappella to achieve consistency and balance across all their developments, it was decided early on they should all have the same amount of photography, covering the same mix of on the ground and aerial views, as well as that aerial overview as the hero.
Build –
Cappella website semplice workspace
Semplice is a WordPress plugin to declaratively build a website. It starts as a blank canvas and by adding the content blocks, and editing their contents and settings, is able to build a website to closely resemble the initial signed off design.
